RNSW Reindeer Regatta 3rd December 2016

26/12/2016

The final weekend of racing for the year was upon us and first up was the Reindeer regatta. Boats were decorated for the festive season and we were welcomed with good weather for the first half of the day with the second half seeing an increasing tailwind develop.
Mark made his racing debut. He placed second in the para single and took out a convincing win with Chris in the para double. Chris also raced in the men’s C grade four with Jason, Airtarn and Will. However, that did not go as smoothly with the crew catching a crab with 250 metres remaining. Though their hopes of racing a perfect race were over they recovered quickly from the mishap and gave it all they had until the finish.
The mixed quad event saw a Nepean crew in all three divisions. A first in two divisions and a third in the final division was a great effort. The first winning crew was Pal, Peter, Sienna and Paul and the second Jacqui, Airtarn, Tallara and Will.
Victoria and Genevieve had a tight race in the under 16 double after the leading crew caught a crab with only 100 metres to go. The girls jumped at the opportunity but Kinross Wolaroi were too strong and took the win with less than a half a second margin. Victoria went on later in the day to claim first in the under 16 single after catching a crab herself mid race.
The novice racing saw Jarrah and Lara making their debuts in their singles. Letisha and Will also contested the novice event. Letisha had a good race showing some good improvements from the Spring regatta earlier in the season though she unfortunately fell in with 250 metres to go. As noted in the four above, what is important is not making the mistake but rather what we do after it.
Overall a great day was had and a big thankyou again to everyone who helped make the day possible.
